speech

Mrs. Ben asked us to make a graduation speech for our fourth and final rough draft for the year. Di ko inakala ganto pala kaexciting gumawa ng ganito. haha!

As the season fades to summer and my years in high school draw to a final end, I have often felt within me a gentle shrug of moments of quiet and thoughtful calmness. Here memories of times long past, of friends new and old, of dreams born and forgotten, of affections kindled and disregarded flood my mind. I am thoroughly overwhelmed by their sweetness and at the same time so curiously blended with their sorrow. Then often I turn to stare thoughtfully at the future, misty and unsure, yet gloriously bright with hope and expectation. Within these blessed times of sweet recollection and ready anticipation, I have found one enduring joy, one unshakable rock, one sure haven in the unending faithfulness and love of my Lord and my God.

This has, for me, been the most enjoyable phase of my life, in part, because I've met so many new people. I also have realized that from our teachers we have primarily learned our academics -- our English, our math, our science. But through each other's influence and our experiences together, I'm sure you'll agree, we have learned a lot about life.

Listen carefully, Batch of 2006, for the sounds you hear tonight will last a lifetime. Store them up and save them in your hearts, for they are priceless. Each whisper, each tick of the clock is a reminder of something you've gained while you were here at the School of the Holy Spirit. Pay attention, so when you hear them later in life you will remember.

It’s up to us right now. There is so much talent in this gym tonight. I know everybody truly realizes that. Tonight we stand at the edge of a completely new era of our lives. We are about to leave the comfort and protection of what we called home for almost 12 years of our lives and we enter into a world of greater independence and opportunities as well as greater corruption and sin.

As you hear the clock tick, remember all the things we have accomplished here at SHS, for they far outnumber the seconds that have elapsed while we were here. We are the class of 2006. We are the graduating seniors of the School of the Holy Spirit and in our midst I see the next female Philippine president. I see a professional ballet dancer and a renowned humanitarian. There is a Hollywood actress and a Nobel Prize winning chemist among us. We have more than potential, we have drive. We know how to do things and how to do them well. We have left our mark here in our school, now it is our turn to do the same to the world. So as we set out on different paths, I challenge all of you tonight to identify where your opportunities may lie and to pursue them. Go and carry out your dreams, never selling yourself short, and realize that everyday is a new day. Go make the most of them.

This life is the divine life that we may have if we seek Him with all our hearts. It is my prayer for me and for you, my dear batchmates, that we would fulfill this highest of callings tonight and for the rest of our lives. Listen carefully for the sounds of the evening because they are our link to the past and our key to the future.

With this let us all together bid our last say for the night: “SIXTREME SIGNING OFF”
